~ History of Betty’s Race ~
Betty Brasgala began the Mother’s Day Walk/Run 30 years ago. As an avid runner, she saw the need for a women-only event in Duluth to inspire women to “get off the sidelines.” After three years, Betty chose to affiliate the race with YWCA of Duluth. We are proud of the history of the race and the spirit of volunteerism and community that it inspires. In celebration of this tradition, the 5K run is still for women only. In January 2005, Betty Brasgala was diagnosed with breast cancer. The race was renamed and will forever be known as “Betty’s Race”.
The fabulous 2 mile walk is all inclusive. All friends and family are invited to participate regardless of age or gender. Wheelchairs, strollers and pets are also welcome in the 2 mile walk only.
